Phylogenomics and the time-tree of life

Genomic data present a rich source of information for improving and refining our knowledge of evolutionary timeframes, allowing us to reconstruct the time-tree of life. The timing of evolutionary events can be inferred using molecular clocks, which have been adapted to cope with the wealth of data being generated by large-scale sequencing projects.

In this talk, I will describe our efforts to estimate the evolutionary timescales of different groups of organisms, including marsupials, birds, and flowering plants. I will also describe our ongoing work on estimating rates of evolution at various biological scales across the Tree of Life.
